Introduction
In the age of globalisation and digitalisation, country borders are becoming more and more permeable, making places where we can gather to communicate with our neighbours all the more important. Places for cultural exchange. For the Frankfurt Book Fair, we were asked to showcase the culmination of the French cultural calendar in an imposing way. Our answer: ‘bien sur’.
How we delivered
A special guest of honour
For the guest of honour of the 69th Book Fair, we created an open sculpture out of 33 kilometres of wooden strips and 100,000 screws. The flexibility of the finished product gave the diversity of the French literature scene lots of space to unfold - from the printing press to the reading room to the stage. And, above all, it provided an appropriate backdrop for the opening ceremony with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron. We say ‘merci’ and are already looking forward to the 2018 Book Fair.
